A trained singer who has dedicated his life to song, Jonny regularly leads services at his synagogue and has been invited to officiate chuppot as a Chazan/Cantor across the globe, from Johannesburg to Jerusalem.

With a velvety, rich bari-tenor voice, Jonny recently completed a two-year Jazz Master’s degree in Music & Performance at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music & Drama —ranked first in the Complete University Guide Arts, Drama & Music League Table 2024 and among the top five music & performing arts institutions worldwide in the QS World University Rankings 2024. Guildhall is celebrated as a global leader in creative and professional practice, fostering innovation, experimentation, and research, much of which is reflected in Jonny’s unique arrangements and performances.

A passionate composer and songwriter, Jonny’s deep love for Jewish liturgical and Kumzitz music, modern Israeli anthems, and the Great American Songbook is seamlessly intertwined with his jazz background. He thrives on improvisation, composition, and musical exploration, constantly pushing the boundaries of his artistry. His earliest musical influences stem from long car journeys through Africa and Israel, listening to The Beatles and The Eagles, as well as singing soulful Sephardic melodies and Adenite prayers alongside his father, brother, and cousins in synagogue. With a classical piano foundation nurtured in his youth, Jonny continues to compose, play, and accompany himself on both piano and guitar.

Jonny has graced some of the world's most renowned stages, including a performance at the Barbican Main Auditorium with Joe Stilgoe and the BBC Concert Orchestra. He has taken to the stage at the Southbank Centre’s Clore Ballroom as part of the EFG Jazz Festival with the ImPossibilities ensemble. A sought-after vocalist, he frequently travels across the world—from South Africa, Greece, and Israel to Italy and beyond—performing as both a Chazan/Cantor and as a vocalist with various bands. A regular presence on the London jazz scene, he has played at esteemed venues such as Ronnie Scott’s and The Ned.

His passion for jazz extends to big-band arrangements of American songbook classics, and he has composed and arranged music for the Guildhall Big Band. Bringing his arrangements to life has been an incredible experience, thanks to the unparalleled talent at Guildhall. Notable performances include Milton Court concerts with the Guildhall Studio Orchestra, featuring Beatles Reimagined and Motown tributes to legends like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. He has also performed with the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and taken part in several standout concerts.

Jonny’s voice has resonated far and wide, from singing in Trafalgar Square before an audience of 30,000 in support of Israeli hostages to electrifying crowds at Limmud with The Matzoh Boys and performing at Berlin’s Kultur Sommer Festival in association with the Jewish Museum Berlin.
